Waiting...

There's something about an approaching birth that makes you acutely aware of the concept of waiting. It is more than an abstract word. More than simply knowing that something is going to happen soon. No, waiting becomes the unbearable anticipation that hearkens back to the Decembers of childhood, when you counted down the days to the 25th. The big difference here, is that you don't have any idea what the date you're waiting for is.

But I remembered something cool today: we're not the only ones waiting for something big. There's a day out there that the entire creation is waiting for with that same kind of "any-day-the-baby-will-be-here" anticipation. It's the day that Paul writes about in Romans 8:
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
It's good to know that we're not the only ones waiting.

April 2006

I found out yesterday that's when my driver's license expired. Good thing I haven't been pulled over lately. And as if that isn't bad enough? I'm pretty sure I now have to take both the written and driving tests again like your typical 14-year-old.

Guess I better start studying.

A "Dr. Pepper" Toast

Today marks five years since I lost my friend Zach Evans in a car accident. He was a notorious fan of what he affectionately called "Dr. P", so here's an imaginary toast to a buddy who left us too soon. If you knew Zach, share a memory in the comments...
